A Journey of Weaving Traditional Coverlets
Embark on an incredible journey through the rich history of American textile art as Cassie Dickson shares her 40-year adventure in mastering traditional coverlet weaving. Coverlets are bed coverings that reached the height of their popularity in America between the 1830s and 1860s. Early coverlets were traditionally crafted with a plain-weave linen or cotton ground cloth and a supplementary wool weft to create intricate patterns. Geometric designs, often achieved using the overshot weaving technique, were particularly common. Practical and decorative, coverlets are treasured for their exceptional craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic.
Cassie's lecture will be an inspiring exploration of historical fiber arts and a rare glimpse into the rich traditions that have shaped these timeless crafts. Using stunning photos and personal stories, Cassie will unravel the secrets of overshot coverlets' intricate patterns and vibrant colors, offering fascinating insights into the research and documentation that have shaped her work. Don’t miss this opportunity to be immersed in a world of weaving, history, and hands-on craftsmanship!
