Flat tapestry crochet is a versatile colorwork technique that allows you to create intricate, multi-colored designs while working back and forth in rows. Unlike traditional crochet, where the back of the stitch appears on every other row, flat tapestry crochet ensures that only the front of each stitch is visible on the face of your piece—resulting in crisp, precise patterns.

In this beginner-friendly class, you'll explore two flat tapestry crochet techniques while making a small tapestry of your own. Along the way, you'll learn how to read and use tapestry crochet graph paper, seamlessly add beads to the front of your work, and properly block your finished piece.

Join us to expand your crochet skills and bring bold, beautiful designs to life—one stitch at a time!

Your instructor, Carol Ventura served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1976 to 1980, working with a weaving cooperative that influenced her passion for fiber arts. Inspired by the tapestry-crocheted shoulder bags made by Mayan men, she explored and mastered the technique, later publishing Maya Hair Sashes Backstrap Woven in Jacaltenango, Guatemala along with three books on tapestry crochet. She also developed specialized graph papers for designing motifs and has published numerous innovative flat and three-dimensional crochet patterns., helping expand this versatile craft's creative possibilities.
