Explore the magic of bead tapestry crochet combined with wet felting!

Tapestry crochet allows you to create intricate patterns by working with multiple yarn colors at the same time, switching between them to form your design. Bead tapestry crochet adds an extra dimension—beads are pre-strung onto individual yarns and incorporated into select stitches. In this hands-on class, you’ll use a large crochet hook and loose single crochet stitches to craft a small bag while experimenting with both techniques. You’ll also learn to design your own motifs using tapestry crochet graph paper, adding a personal touch to your work.

Once you’ve completed your bag, you’ll felt it at home in the washing machine (detailed instructions provided), transforming your loose stitches into a thick, durable fabric with striking patterns on both sides. The result? A unique, functional bag!

Your instructor, Carol Ventura served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1976 to 1980, working with a weaving cooperative that influenced her passion for fiber arts. Inspired by the tapestry-crocheted shoulder bags made by Mayan men, she explored and mastered the technique. She later published Maya Hair Sashes Backstrap Woven in Jacaltenango, Guatemala, along with three books on tapestry crochet. She also developed specialized graph papers for designing motifs and has published numerous innovative flat and three-dimensional crochet patterns, helping expand this versatile craft’s creative possibilities.
