Freestyle weaving is fun, intuitive, and accessible to all. It is weaving without rules or restrictions. Curious? Then don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to learn this simple and expressive way to make fabric! You’ll work on a warped (prepared) loom, and you’ll explore color, texture, and pattern with a wide array of yarns. Learn different techniques to change yarns mid-row and how to incorporate unusual materials. You’ll work at your own pace but learn with the group, so that the class weaves together as equals, sharing inspiration, creativity, and technique. Whether this is your first time sitting at a loom or you’re a weaver who wants to “play,” you’ll leave with fabric that is unique to you and a new, meaningful method of creating fabric.

Denise Prince finds joy in being a maker. She opened HanDen Studios Weaving in 2012 after her lifelong interest in fiber arts took her on a journey that led her to the Japanese art of freestyle weaving. The unique freeform style of weaving drew Denise in, and she knew she had found her new calling. In addition to freestyle weaving, Denise also enjoys sewing, spinning, and dyeing yarn, and is an award-winning custom jewelry designer.

• Lunch and snacks for both days (A refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven will be available for your use.)
• A willingness to learn and explore new ideas!
• Optional:
  • Handspun yarn.
  • Any yarn that fits into the category of “What the heck was I thinking when I bought this?”
  • Any fun stuff you want to try to weave with.
