Get creative with your spinning! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn to spin two types of eye-catching art yarns: a Lock-Spun Button Ply on a drop spindle and an Autowrapped Beehive on a spinning wheel.

We’ll begin by going over the supplies, preparing fibers, and setting up tools. After a guided demonstration, you’ll dive into spinning, with personalized instruction and technique correction from your instructor. Once your yarn is complete, you’ll learn how to finish it properly—skeining and setting the twist to preserve your work.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to spin a Lock-Spun Button Ply yarn on a drop spindle
  • How to spin an Autowrapped Beehive yarn on a spinning wheel
  • Tips for fiber preparation, spinning techniques, and finishing yarn
  • Whether you’re looking to add flair to your handspun or just love experimenting with texture, this class will give you the skills and confidence to create truly unique yarns.

Vanessa Kroening, author of Yarn Spinning with a Modern Twist, is a passionate fiber artist who specializes in spinning funky art yarns on the drop spindle. She is enthusiastic about all varieties of wool and is especially dedicated to making spinning accessible to everyone. Vanessa loves showing that novelty yarns can be created not only on the spinning wheel but also on the humble drop spindle.
