Historic Linens: A Weaver’s Research Journey
Skip back in time with Cassie as she takes us on a deep dive into the world of antique linen textiles and the time-honored techniques that inspire her work today. She’ll guide us through the fascinating process of growing flax and processing the fiber using authentic 18th and 19th-century tools, including:
- an analysis of antique spun yarns and flax stricks,
- historic recipes for dyeing linen with natural dyes,
- yarn comparisons and weaving setts to reproduce these beautiful traditional textiles,
- techniques for scouring, sizing, and weaving with hand-spun linen singles,
- methods for bleaching linen cloth,
- linsey-woolsey cloth, and
