Started in California in the 1970s, Folkwear provides sewing patterns based on authentic vintage and folk garments from around the world. Their patterns are flexible enough to be used for historical and theatrical costuming as well as for making unique everyday wear.

Folkware believes that sewing is made richer and more enjoyable when you understand more about the histories and cultures of the garments you are making. So, in addition to traditional construction techniques, many of the 100+ Folkwear patterns include an explanation of how the garment would have been traditionally worn and instructions for authentic embellishments, including smocking, embroidery, and quilting.

Please join us for an informative presentation by Molly about Folkwear and the chance to shop for Folkwear patterns in person. If you can’t wait and want to browse the collection in advance, visit Folkwear’s website to explore its extensive range of patterns with timeless styles.

Today, Folkwear is based in Asheville, NC, under the leadership of Molly Hamilton. Molly learned to sew at a very young age, taught by her grandmother who was a talented seamstress. Molly took over Folkwear when her youngest child started school, embracing it’s vision of providing authentic, beautiful, and functional home sewing patterns for clothing from around the world and across decades.
